 JGSPC Contributes to Earth Day
24 April 2007 | By Ismael Dayanghirang & Krystle Banaag

“Mundo ko, Sagot ko” this was the theme of the April 24, Earth Day Celebration of which JG Summit wasencouraged to participate. The event aims to showcase the best practices on environmental protection, preservation, enhancement and pollution abatement by establishments found within the city.
A day before the celebration of the National Earth Day, news about tomorrow’s parade surfaced inside the plant. Participants from various departments were asked to join in. By effort, 20 people willingly submitted to the invitation.

The parade started by 7:00 o’clock in the morning, adhering to the original plan. The journey stretched 2 kms. from Laurel Park to the City Quadrangle. Different City Organizations, Private Firms, Barangay Residents and individual volunteers walked merrily side by side, enjoying the event and making noise to make them stand-out from the rest.
When everyone was settled inside the quadrangle, the program continued. There were environmental exhibits inside the place showcasing different ways of showing environmental support. The program was officially opened after the ribbon cutting wherein all participants were asked for a representative to gather within the welcoming area. Next, a delegate from CENRO spoke before the audience and discussed environmental awareness and invited everyone to sign on the Cooperation Board, of which Sir Ed Collantes of Safety Department signed in behalf of the whole JGSPC family. Song and dance numbers came afterwards providing entertainment and sparing time while the awaited “Miss Earth” was still under preparation.

At last! The program for “Miss Earth 2007” began. We saw the beautiful ladies representing private organizations smiling and making best impressions toward the judges and the audience. Each contestant introduced herself and modeled her suit the best she could.
But at around 9:00 am, we gathered together to go back to the plant.Sadly though, we did not finish the Miss Earth Pageant since valuable time was at stake and we needed to resume working for our respective positions. Nevertheless, the day was well spent and all of us were happy to have been part of the event. By next celebration, we promised to givethe same commitment to environment preservation and hope that by that time, we could be able to complete the whole program and be joined by others, too.
