Artificial Reef Project

The Artificial Reef Project through the BCRMF was deployed last May 30, 2002. JGSPC is the lead company of the Blue Group of the BCRMF in this undertaking. On February 20, 2003 after nine months from its deployment, the artificial reef was monitored to verify if there are already fishes and sea animals and other organisms inhabiting the reefs. Divers form the coast guard through the coordination of BCRMF had a look at the artificial reefs.  From the survey of the area, it can be concluded that the intent of the artificial reef was successful. It was noted that there are different species of organisms, fishes and animal life starting to inhabit the artificial reef.

The following organisms were noted in the reef area:

Lionfish (Pterois volitans)

Onespot snapper (Lutjanidus monostigma) - Maya maya

Longfin butterflyfish (Heniochus acuminatus)

Three-spot damsel  (Dascyllus trimaculatus)

Lizard fish  (Synodontidae) -  Kalaso

Blue crabs – Alimasag

Juvenile spiny lobsters – Banagan

Eels – Igat

Black urchins (Diadema sp)  - Salungong itim

Clown anemone fish (Family POMACENTRIDAE- Amphiprioninae)

Below are the pictures of  the different living organisms that now inhabit the artificial reef. BCRMF considered this project a very sucessful one. This project certainly will benefit the fishermen of Barangay Simlong in the future. Other member companies of BCRMF are considering putting up the same in selected barangays in their locality.
